Africa Faculty Development Workshop [Cairo, Egypt]
The Africa Academy of Management (AFAM) would like to announce a continuation of the Africa Faculty Development Workshops (AFDW) that were held in conjunction with the Academy of Management (AOM) in Kigali, Rwanda and Accra, Ghana. The next workshop will be hosted by The American University in Cairo (Cairo, Egypt) from 9 to 13 June 2019. Applications for this workshop are welcomed through 1 February 2019.
The Africa Faculty Development Workshops are a series of programs aimed at promoting excellent PhD and new faculty research, assisting with the advancement of research scholarship, and helping to develop the next generation of Africa’s academic leaders. The first two workshops sponsored and funded by the Academy of Management were held in Accra, Ghana in 2011; and Kigali, Rwanda in 2012. The third workshop was held in Pretoria, South Africa in 2015, with sponsorship from the University of Pretoria, while the fourth workshop took place in Kumasi, Ghana in 2017, with sponsorship from the Ecowas Bank for Investment and Development (EBID). About the Africa Academy of Management (AFAM)
AFAM is a not-for-profit association of academics and practitioners interested in advancing research and education about management in Africa. Its membership is comprised of academics, students and practitioners in all regions of Africa and the diaspora. In 2016, AFAM became an affiliate of the Academy of Management. AFAM believes management knowledge can make a significant contribution to productivity and prosperity of Africa. Several studies have identified the inadequate state of management research and scholarship about Africa relative to other regions of the world. Our mission is to help close this gap by promoting research and education about management and organizations in Africa. This includes the mentoring of doctoral students, guiding and developing junior faculty, building collaborative networks among scholars, and advocating interest and focus on Africa internationally. Since its founding, AFAM has held four successful international conferences in San Antonio, TX, USA in 2011, at the University of Botswana in 2014, Strathmore Business School in Nairobi, Kenya in 2016, and Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia in 2018. The fifth biennial conference is underway for January 2020 at the Lagos Business School in Nigeria. AFAM has an indexed journal, Africa Journal of Management (AJOM), published since 2015 by Taylor & Francis.
