Dr. Memuna Williams Presents Research on CSR Development in SMEs to Entrepreneurship Researchers at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS)
Dr. Memuna Williams recently had the privilege of presenting her thesis on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) development in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to a group of esteemed entrepreneurship researchers affiliated with the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).
During her presentation, Dr. Williams shared her research findings, which provide a unified theory of CSR development across various phases. The storyline captures how SMEs engage with their communities, highlighting the journey from initial engagement to becoming fully mission-driven entities.
Dr. Williams emphasized the critical importance of clarity in the CSR development process. “Clarity is not just a guiding principle; it’s essential for SMEs to effectively navigate the complexities of stakeholder engagement and community impact,” she noted. Her insights shed light on the evolving nature of CSR in SMEs and the tangible benefits that can arise from intentional, clear strategies.

About Dr. Memuna Williams
Dr. Memuna Williams is an executive dedicated to driving sustainable change in education, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Inspired by the dedication of her Sierra Leonean parents to public service, she has more than 30 years of global experience serving in senior leadership and executive roles across major global corporations, nonprofits, and her own small business—delivering award-winning results in North America and across Africa.

Dr. Williams has received honors in small business and woman-owned business categories, including recognition from the Charlotte Business Journal as a woman in business. She lives in Johannesburg, South Africa, with her husband, Victor. They have three sons. Dr. Williams has also lived in Europe, Canada, and the United States and is bilingual, fluent in English and French.
