Our History

Baniyelme Zoogah begins review of JAB publication (which was published in 2008) and identified a gap in Management Scholarship in the journal. Resolved to propose a caucus in Academy of Management (AOM) to bring together Management Scholars in AOM.

Baniyelme Zoogah submits a caucus proposal for the Africa Research Caucus Group which was accepted resulting in the 1^st caucus of the Africa Research Group held in Philadelphia, PA. Nine participants.

Second caucus for the Africa Research Group held in AOM, Anaheim, CA: 15 participants.

• At the first biennial conference in San Antonio, USA, the Africa Research Group was disbanded as the Africa Academy of Management was inaugurated. The Program Chair was Baniyelme Zoogah who as the Secretary. In attendance were the President of AOM, Prof. James P. Walsh, and ex-President of the International Federation of Scholarly Associations of Management (IFSAM), Dr. Sue Bruning who was a keynote speaker.
• The 1^st Africa Faculty Development Workshop (AFDW) was held in Ghana in December, supported by AOM. AFAM sponsored ten (10) early scholars from Africa to attend the inaugural Academy.

The 2^nd AFDW was held in Rwanda in May, supported by AOM.

Partnered with AOM to organize first global conference in Africa held on 7-10 Jan. 2013, in Johannesburg, South Africa

• The 2^nd Biennial Conference was held in Gaborone, Botswana. This was the first meeting in the continent after a resolution to hold all conferences in Africa.
• Africa Journal of Management (AJOM) launched with Moses Kiggundu as Editor in Chief.

The 3^rd AFDW is held in Pretoria in July.  It was the first to be sponsored by AFAM.

The 3^rd Biennial Conference is held in Nairobi, Kenya hosted by Strathmore University.

The 4^th AFDW is held in Ghana

The 4^th Biennial Conference is held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia hosted by the Addis Ababa University School of Commerce.

The 5^th AFDW is held in Egypt hosted by the America University in Cairo.

The 5^th Biennial Conference is held in Lagos, Nigeria hosted by the Lagos Business School.  

The sixth Africa Faculty Development Workshop (AFDW) is held online due to the Covid pandemic

2023:  Back Together after a Safety Pause

The 6^th Biennial Conference is held in Cairo, Egypt hosted by The German University in Cairo.

The 7^th Biennial Conference is held in Cape Town, South Africa hosted by Stellenbosch Business School.

The 8^th Biennial Conference is held in Casablanca Morocco hosted by ESCA Ecole de Management
